The Southern Ground hornbill is a large savannah bird with black feathers and a red pouch under its chin with blue on the center of it and red skin around its eyes. Its large bill is used to catch snakes. It is also known as the thunderbird because of the booming sound it makes. They are the only member to be terrestrial (live on land and don't fly often) It is important to the environment because it disperses seeds in the environment, snake population control, and insect population control. It is endangered because of habitat loss and farmers have been poisoning these birds.
